Residents of Cajah Estate in New Karshi, Nasarawa State, are accusing officers at the New Karshi Police Station of aiding the release of a notorious suspect after reportedly collecting a bribe. The suspect, known as Doyin, had been arrested on November 30 for allegedly stealing an air conditioner from a home in the area.

According to community members, instead of processing the case, police officers accepted money and later staged the suspect’s “escape” on Sunday morning. They claim the officer responsible for crime records played a key role in enabling the suspect to walk free, insisting the police narrative of an escape was fabricated.

The development has sparked outrage, as residents say the suspect has been linked to multiple thefts and burglaries affecting the neighborhood. They are calling for a thorough investigation and strict punishment for any officers found culpable.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced that it is looking into the incident to determine what transpired and restore public confidence.
