A tragic road accident involving a fuel tanker and the convoy of Senate President Godswill Akpabio has claimed the life of a police dispatch rider in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The incident occurred on Sunday shortly after members of the Senate President’s convoy picked him up from the Ibadan Airport. A tanker reportedly lost control and rammed into the convoy, killing Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ibrahim Hussaini, who was part of Akpabio’s security detail.
Addressing the matter during plenary at the Senate on Tuesday, Akpabio expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the late officer as a dedicated and committed personnel. He informed lawmakers that the deceased had already been buried earlier in the day.
The late DSP Hussaini, who hailed from Kogi State, was said to be approaching retirement and is survived by two wives and four children. He had served in the Senate President’s convoy since 2023.
In response to the tragedy, Akpabio announced support for the bereaved family, including a commitment to ensure employment opportunities for the deceased officer’s children. The Senate also observed a minute of silence in honour of the fallen officer.
