PDP Rejects INEC’s Position, Insists Party Has No Faction Amid Leadership Dispute

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of bias, insisting that the party remains united despite claims of internal division.

In a statement issued by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the party faulted INEC’s refusal to recognise its leadership and upload details of its national officers following the Ibadan convention. The party described the commission’s stance as misleading and harmful to democratic principles.

The Turaki-led PDP maintained that there is no faction within the party, arguing that references to parallel leadership structures are politically motivated. It noted that court judgments being cited to justify INEC’s actions are currently under appeal, with applications for stay of execution already filed.

Party officials further stated that INEC actively monitored key PDP activities, including the fixing of the convention date and the conduct of governorship primaries in Osun and Ekiti states, but failed to acknowledge these actions in its public position.

The PDP also dismissed claims that a committee linked to Minister Nyesom Wike represents a faction of the party, describing it instead as a gathering of associates without constitutional backing. According to the party, its recognised leadership enjoys the support of governors, state chairmen, lawmakers, and other statutory organs.

The party urged its members to remain calm as legal processes continue and called on INEC to respect the PDP’s internal structures and constitutional rights.
