President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed confidence that Nigeria will overcome banditry and other security challenges in 2026, urging citizens to unite in pursuit of a peaceful, stable, and prosperous nation.
Akpabio made the remarks during a prayer and fasting service held in honour of the Akpabio family at the Methodist Church Nigeria, Cathedral of Unity, Ukana Ikot Ntuen, Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
He appealed to Nigerians to set aside their differences, embrace peace, and promote unity in their homes, communities, and across the country, noting that meaningful development can only flourish in a peaceful environment.
“I wish all Nigerians a prosperous and peaceful New Year. I assure you that the coming year will usher in renewed peace for our country,” he said.
Reflecting on the Christmas season, Akpabio highlighted its message of hope and renewal, linking it to Nigeria’s aspirations for national healing and security restoration. He urged citizens, regardless of political affiliation, to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in ongoing efforts to combat banditry and insurgency, adding that strengthened collaboration with international partners would further enhance national security initiatives.
The Senate President also stressed the importance of strong family bonds as a foundation for national peace and progress.
In her remarks, the wife of the Senate President, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, encouraged members of the Akpabio family to support one another selflessly and live in unity and love. The head of the Greater Akpabio Family, Chief Ekan Akpabio, also called on family members to continue supporting the Senate President and to remain connected to their roots while prioritising the welfare of their communities.
The annual prayer and fasting service, held every December 26, serves as an opportunity for the Akpabio family to express gratitude to God and pray for peace, unity, and progress in Nigeria.
