The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has called on Nigerians, especially Christians, to remain united, compassionate and hopeful as the nation continues to confront security challenges, economic hardship and widening social divisions.

In his Christmas message titled “Nigeria’s Hope in Challenging Times: A Christmas Reflection,” SDP National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, urged citizens to draw strength from the spirit of the season and work towards national cohesion and shared responsibility.

Gabam described Christmas as a period that should inspire Nigerians to rise above religious, ethnic and political differences, becoming “beacons of hope and unity.” He said the country’s difficulties can only be overcome through collective effort and a renewed commitment to peace and nation-building.

He stressed that Christians have a vital role in promoting harmony by demonstrating love, compassion and tolerance within their communities, particularly at a time when insecurity and economic strain continue to test national resilience.

The SDP chairman encouraged Nigerians to show practical kindness by supporting the less privileged, feeding the hungry, comforting the distressed and extending empathy to others, noting that such acts would strengthen social bonds and promote mutual respect.

Referencing Christian teachings, Gabam emphasized the need to love one’s neighbour and transcend tribal, religious and ethnic barriers. He said Nigeria must consciously work towards building a country where citizens can live without fear and enjoy justice, equality and dignity.

Speaking on the economy, he acknowledged the hardship many families are facing but expressed optimism that meaningful change is possible through collective effort, responsible leadership and support for policies that promote transparency, accountability and inclusive growth.

Gabam also urged Christians to pray for the nation, its leaders and peaceful coexistence among communities. He appealed against hatred, bitterness and division, insisting that Nigeria’s progress depends on deliberate efforts to foster reconciliation and understanding among people of diverse backgrounds.

“As we celebrate this festive season, let us choose hope, love and compassion. Let us choose Nigeria and work together towards a brighter future for all,” he said.

The SDP chairman expressed confidence in Nigeria’s future, urging citizens to remain steadfast and committed to building a peaceful, just and prosperous nation despite present challenges.
