Nigerian music star Adekunle Kosoko, popularly known as Adekunle Gold, has made history as the first artist to headline a concert at the newly renovated National Theatre in Lagos, now renamed the Wole Soyinka Centre.

The sold-out event, held on Thursday, December 26, 2025, marked a major milestone for the iconic venue, which reopened in October after extensive renovation. Thousands of fans filled the theatre for Adekunle Gold Live at the National Theatre, signalling the return of large-scale live performances to the cultural landmark.

Performing alongside a full orchestra, Adekunle Gold delivered a captivating set that seamlessly blended classical instrumentation with his signature Afrobeats sound. One of the highlights of the evening was the dramatic introduction by his former label boss, Olamide, who received loud cheers as he welcomed Adekunle Gold to the stage with a playful yet grand proclamation celebrating his artistry and elegance.

The concert also featured several surprise appearances. Davido joined Adekunle Gold for an energetic performance of their hit collaboration Only God Can Save Me, thrilling the crowd as fans sang along passionately. Music icons Adewale Ayuba and Yinka Ayefele later joined him on stage for a memorable rendition of Many People, adding even greater excitement to the night.

Throughout his performances, Adekunle Gold showcased confidence and artistic maturity, with the orchestral arrangement giving his music a fresh and refined dimension. Addressing the audience, he encouraged fans to remain determined and fearless in pursuing their dreams, saying, “Don’t stop dreaming. Keep daring to be different. Do everything on your own terms… See you next year.”

The concert not only celebrated Adekunle Gold’s outstanding musicianship but also marked a defining moment for the revitalised National Theatre. His successful headline performance has set a promising tone for future world-class concerts at the newly renamed Wole Soyinka Centre.
