Sir Paul Chukwuma, the governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), has formally petitioned the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, challenging the outcome of the recent governorship election declared in favour of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Chukwuma announced that his party has taken legal steps to contest the results, citing alleged irregularities during the electoral process.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the YPP candidate expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the election, claiming that the will of the electorate was compromised in several polling units across the state. He alleged instances of vote suppression, irregular collation of results, and non-compliance with electoral guidelines, insisting that these issues substantially affected the final outcome announced by the electoral body.
Chukwuma stressed that his decision to approach the court was not driven by personal ambition but by a commitment to defend democracy and protect the votes of Anambra people. He called on Governor Soludo and APGA to respect the rule of law and allow the judiciary to impartially determine the true winner of the election.
Meanwhile, APGA has maintained that it won the election convincingly, describing the petition as the legal right of any aggrieved candidate. Political observers say the legal battle could shape Anambra’s political landscape in the coming months as the tribunal prepares to hear arguments from all parties involved.
