The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has confirmed a fire outbreak at the IBB Way Injection Substation in Katsina, which damaged a 15MVA TR3 power transformer and resulted in widespread power outage across parts of the state capital.

In a statement signed by its Head of Corporate Communication, Sani Bala Sani, KEDCO said the incident occurred late Sunday, January 4, 2026. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

According to the company, technical experts have since been deployed to the scene to investigate the cause of the incident, evaluate the level of damage, and commence restoration work.

“As a safety precaution, the affected areas have been isolated to safeguard lives and property,” the statement said.

Areas currently affected by the outage include Kofar Kaura, GRA, Dandagoro, parts of Kofar Marusa, Janbango, Kano Road, and surrounding communities.

KEDCO apologized to its customers for the inconvenience caused, assuring that safety and speedy restoration of electricity remain its top priority. The company added that further updates will be communicated as investigations progress and repairs continue.
