The Ebem Ohafia Community in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State has announced a set of stringent security measures aimed at restoring peace, safety, and social order.
The decisions were reached by the Ebem Ohafia youths in collaboration with the Central Executive Council of the Ebem Ohafia Development Union (EODU), with the full endorsement of the Ebem Council of Chiefs and Elders.
In a statement signed by the community’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ifeanyi Okali, Ebem Ohafia declared an immediate and total ban on the sale, use, and trafficking of hard drugs and other illicit substances within the community. The statement warned that anyone found violating the directive would face heavy fines and disciplinary actions, regardless of social status.
The community also issued a final warning against cultism, ordering all individuals involved in such activities to renounce them immediately or face severe community sanctions, alongside possible prosecution by security agencies.
Criminal elements using Ebem Ohafia as a hideout have been directed to leave the community without delay. The statement further cautioned that any indigene found harbouring criminals would be held responsible.
In addition, the use and brandishing of weapons, gunshots, fighting, and all forms of gun violence have been strictly prohibited. Offenders will be handed over to security agencies, fined heavily, and subjected to further community sanctions.
The community resolved that Ndi Ikwu would be held accountable for defaulters within their respective jurisdictions, including possible suspension from hosting ceremonies where necessary.
Traders operating along the Ebem Police Station/Court Road and within the Ebem Daily Market were also warned against blocking gutters, walkways, and designated free zones. Any trader found violating the directive will have their goods immediately impounded.
The Ebem Ohafia Community urged all residents and visitors to comply strictly with the new measures, stressing that enforcement will be firm and uncompromising in the interest of peace and development.
