The Ebem Ohafia community in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State has rolled out far-reaching security measures to tackle crime, restore order, and safeguard lives and property.

The resolutions, which took effect on Monday, January 13, 2026, were jointly adopted by the youths of Ebem Ohafia, the Central Executive Council of the Ebem Ohafia Development Union (EODU), and the Council of Chiefs and Elders, following rising concerns over insecurity in the area.

As part of the new framework, all forms of hard drug sales, consumption, and trafficking have been completely prohibited within the community. Authorities warned that violators will be subjected to severe fines and disciplinary actions, regardless of their status or influence.

The community also issued a strong warning against cult-related activities, directing those involved to immediately disengage or face strict sanctions and possible prosecution in line with existing laws.

In addition, Ebem Ohafia resolved to prevent criminals from using the community as a safe haven. Individuals who committed crimes elsewhere and relocated to Ebem to evade justice have been ordered to leave immediately, while residents found sheltering such persons will be sanctioned.

The use, display, or discharge of firearms, as well as violent confrontations, have also been outlawed. Offenders will be handed over to security agencies and face heavy community penalties. Traditional units, known as Ndi Ikwu, were further assigned responsibility for offenders within their areas, with penalties that may include suspension from hosting ceremonies and other communal privileges.

The reforms also cover commercial conduct. Traders operating along the Ebem Police Station/Court Road and within the Ebem Ohafia Daily Market were cautioned against blocking walkways, gutters, and designated free zones. Items obstructing these areas will be confiscated without prior notice.

Commenting on the development, the Publicity Secretary of the Ebem Ohafia Development Union, Mr. Ifeanyi Okali, said the measures demonstrate the community’s united determination to uphold peace, protect property, and preserve its core values. He urged residents and visitors to comply fully, noting that enforcement would be firm.

The Ebem Ohafia community reaffirmed its resolve to promote peace, security, and sustainable development, calling on all stakeholders to support the new measures for the collective good.
