The Budget Office of the Federation has clarified that the ₦246.77 billion allocated to the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in the federal budget is not solely for staff salaries.
Tanimu Yakubu, Director‑General of the Budget Office, explained that the amount represents a lump-sum figure submitted at an aggregate level, and the apparent categorization under “Personnel Cost” is only a technical placeholder due to missing detailed economic breakdowns at the time of budget submission.
He added that adjustments by the National Assembly shifted some capital expenditure to the 2026 budget, and the allocation will support development projects across the North East, including agriculture, boreholes, reconstruction of IDP camps, food security, and other interventions.
Yakubu urged the public not to mistake initial budget lines for final spending intentions, emphasizing that the funds are meant for a wide range of development activities beyond salaries.
