Amazon has announced it will cut around 16,000 jobs worldwide as part of a major effort to streamline operations and reduce bureaucracy.
The move follows a previous round of layoffs that eliminated roughly 14,000 positions, bringing the total number of corporate roles removed in recent months to about 30,000.
Affected employees will have the opportunity to apply for other internal positions, and Amazon plans to provide severance, career transition support, and continued benefits for those who are not reassigned.
The company said the restructuring is aimed at simplifying management, increasing accountability, and focusing on strategic priorities to support long-term growth. Frontline warehouse and fulfilment staff are largely unaffected by the cuts.
This announcement reflects broader trends in the tech industry, as major companies adjust to changing market conditions, automation, and the adoption of artificial intelligence to improve efficiency.
