Award-winning Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has spoken out after losing the Best African Music Performance category at the 68th Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles, United States.

Davido, a five-time Grammy nominee, attended the ceremony on Sunday night at the Crypto.com Arena in California, where South African singer Tyla emerged winner of the category with her song Push 2 Start.

Following the announcement, the Nigerian star shared a message of faith and resilience on his Instagram page. Posting photos with his wife, Chioma, from the event, he wrote: “Oluwa Dey my side,” accompanied by prayer and music emojis.

Hours later, Davido reflected further in another post, revealing a conversation with Chioma after the loss.

“I said baby listen we lost again let’s not go! She said ‘Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat’ we outside,” he wrote.

Chioma also reacted, praising her husband in a message shared on Instagram. “You already know that you’re the perfect one, @davido,” she wrote alongside photos from the awards night.

Davido was nominated in the category for his song With You featuring Omah Lay. Other nominees included Burna Boy (Love), Ayra Starr and Wizkid (Gimme Dat), and Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin (Hope & Love).

Tyla’s victory marked her second Grammy Award, having won her first in 2024 for her hit single Water.

In an earlier interview, Davido revealed that With You almost did not make the final tracklist of his fifth studio album, 5IVE.

“Man, it’s so crazy because that song almost didn’t make the album. With You was not in anybody’s top five,” he said.

He also recalled learning about his Grammy nomination unexpectedly while in Dubai days before his birthday.

“With You,” released in April 2025 as the 17th track on 5IVE, has since surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify, becoming one of his most successful recent records.

Despite strong Nigerian representation, the country did not secure a win at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

Davido said he is now focused on touring and releasing new music. He is also scheduled to perform at Coachella 2026, where he will be the only Nigerian artiste on the festival lineup, performing on April 11 and April 18 in Indio, California.
