Human rights activist and political figure Omoyele Sowore joined demonstrators at the National Assembly in Abuja on Tuesday, lending his voice to the ongoing #OccupyNASS movement demanding mandatory electronic transmission of election results.

Sowore, who leads the National Opposition Movement, addressed the crowd and urged security personnel to respect peaceful protestors, warning against any use of force that could escalate tensions. Former minister Solomon Dalung also appeared at the scene in support of the reform effort.

The protest continues amid broader public frustration over the Senate’s proposed changes to the Electoral Act, with demonstrators insisting that transparent and real-time transmission of results is essential for credible elections. Sowore described the issue as part of a long-standing struggle for electoral integrity and insisted Nigerians must defend systems that protect the value of their votes.

Throughout the day, security forces remained present around the legislature, although there were no immediate reports of clashes. Organisers emphasised their commitment to peaceful demonstration while pressing lawmakers to ensure electoral reforms that inspire greater public confidence.
