Operatives of the Nigerian Immigration Service have arrested a woman suspected of human trafficking during an operation at the Seme border corridor, leading to the rescue of six women believed to be victims of an illegal cross-border movement scheme.

Officials said the suspect was stopped during routine checks by border officers who noticed irregularities in the group’s travel details. Further questioning raised red flags, prompting officers to detain the woman and separate the travelers for screening and protection.

The six women were taken into custody for their safety and are undergoing documentation and welfare assessments. Authorities say arrangements are being made to transfer them to the appropriate agency responsible for supporting trafficking victims.

Immigration authorities stressed that surveillance and patrols along border routes have been intensified, warning traffickers and smugglers that enforcement operations will continue to expand across major crossing points.
