Ex-Minister Amaechi Brings Doctor Son to Support Abuja Protesters

Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, turned heads on Tuesday when he showed up at a demonstration outside the National Assembly in Abuja, accompanied by his eldest son, a qualified medical doctor.

The protest, led by youths and civil society groups, opposes the Senate’s rejection of mandatory real-time electronic transmission of election results, a reform many see as vital for transparency ahead of the 2027 elections.

Amaechi explained he brought his son to provide medical help to anyone who might get injured if clashes occurred, emphasizing that having health support on site was a practical precaution amid concerns about unrest.

His presence, along with his son’s involvement in a support role, drew attention as a strong show of solidarity with protesters demanding stronger electoral reforms.
