The United States government has imposed financial sanctions on eight Nigerians accused of supporting extremist groups and participating in transnational financial crimes. The action targets their assets and restricts their access to the U.S. financial system.
The measure was carried out by the U.S. Department of the Treasury through its sanctions enforcement unit, the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Authorities say the individuals were added to a restricted list that blocks any property or funds connected to them within U.S. jurisdiction.
Officials said the designations are linked to suspected support roles for extremist movements, including Boko Haram and Islamic State, as well as involvement in organized cyber-enabled schemes.
With the sanctions in place, U.S. citizens and companies are prohibited from conducting transactions with the listed persons, as part of broader efforts to disrupt terror financing and cross-border criminal operations.
