Nigeria’s disease control authority has raised alarm over a rise in Lassa fever infections among medical staff, revealing that several frontline health workers have tested positive for the virus, and at least two have died in the ongoing outbreak.

Recent reports indicate that around 15 healthcare workers have been confirmed with Lassa fever, highlighting the heightened risks faced by those treating patients during the epidemic.

Authorities have urged all health facilities to strengthen infection prevention and control practices to protect staff, calling for greater vigilance, adherence to safety protocols, and early reporting of symptoms among medical teams.

The alert comes as the viral disease continues to circulate widely across several Nigerian states during this year’s transmission period. Authorities are intensifying response measures to limit further spread and safeguard both healthcare workers and the public.
