Christian Groups Reject Parallel Organisations, Stress Unity Under One National Body

Christian leaders across Nigeria have issued a joint declaration reinforcing that there is only one legitimate Christian umbrella organisation for the country and urging believers not to recognise any unofficial or breakaway groups that claim to represent them.

According to the statement released by senior church figures, the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) emphasised it remains the sole national body authorised to speak for Protestant, Catholic, Pentecostal, and other Christian denominations. They warned that attempts by smaller factions to form rival councils could lead to confusion and division among the faithful.

In the communique, the leaders urged pastors, congregations, and the public to disregard unauthorised groups claiming to be the “true CAN” or similar entities, stressing that such bodies have no legal or spiritual mandate. The association stated that only leadership elected through CAN’s constitutional process is recognised as having authority to represent Christians nationally.

The church leaders also called on Christians to stay united, strengthen collaboration between denominations, and steer clear of movements that might undermine cohesion within the Christian community.

The statement underscores ongoing efforts by CAN to maintain organisational clarity and prevent splinter movements from weakening the influence and unity of Christian institutions in the country.
