Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus has opened up about her weight loss journey, saying her decision to transform her body was inspired by self-love and a desire to improve her health, not societal pressure.
In a post shared on Instagram on Friday, the actress stressed that body size is not the real issue, but rather self-doubt and insecurity.
“I need you to hear this from me… being ‘fat’ is not the problem. Hating yourself is. Doubting yourself is. Believing you’re not enough is. That’s the real struggle,” she wrote.
Badmus emphasised that a person’s value is not defined by their weight, noting that confidence, success and admiration are not size-dependent.
“Your size has never cancelled your worth. You can be confident, successful, loved, admired, and unstoppable at any size,” she added.
She encouraged those considering weight loss to ensure their motivation comes from a healthy place.
“And if you choose to lose weight, let it be from a place of love, not shame. Let it be because you want to feel healthier, stronger, and happier, not because the world told you to shrink,” she said.
Reflecting on her personal experience, Badmus explained that her transformation was not sudden but the result of steady, intentional choices.
“My weight loss journey has taught me one powerful thing: transformation starts in the mind. I didn’t wake up one day different—I made small, consistent decisions,” she wrote.
She also urged people to appreciate and respect their bodies at every stage of their journey, describing confidence as an attitude rather than a number on a scale.
“Even before the weight changes, you must love the body you’re in right now. Respect it. Thank it. Celebrate it,” she said, while expressing gratitude to fans who have supported her.
Badmus’ recent message echoes comments she made in a 2020 interview, where she clarified that her goal was not to become slim but to remain chubby while improving her overall fitness.
“It’s not going to be a total transformation because I still want to be a chubby girl; not slim. The goal is to be chubby but sexier,” she had said at the time.
She also maintained that her decision was personal and not influenced by public expectations, reiterating her commitment to staying healthy while preserving her identity and confidence.
