Japan has provided Lagos State with medical supplies worth $1.7 million to help tackle a growing cholera threat. The shipment, handed over to state health officials this week, includes essential medicines, protective gear, and water‑sanitation equipment aimed at both treatment and prevention.

State authorities said the donation arrives at a critical time as the city prepares for the rainy season, which often triggers a rise in water‑borne illnesses. Officials also highlighted ongoing efforts to educate communities, including food vendors and waste workers, on proper hygiene practices to reduce infection risks.

Representatives of the Lagos State government described the support as “timely and impactful,” noting that it will enhance the state’s ability to manage cholera outbreaks and strengthen public health infrastructure.

Japan’s ambassador reiterated his country’s commitment to global health, emphasizing solidarity with Nigeria in preventing disease outbreaks. The donation is part of Japan’s broader international health initiatives, aimed at improving emergency preparedness and public health resilience in vulnerable communities.
