Customs Transfers Nearly 160,000 Litres of Confiscated Petrol to Regulatory Authority

A large volume of petrol intercepted during anti-smuggling operations has been formally transferred by the Nigeria Customs Service to the nation’s downstream regulator for proper handling and oversight. The handover involved roughly 159,000 litres of fuel recovered from illegal distribution channels.

The transfer ceremony, held in Lagos, brought together officials from both agencies, who emphasized the importance of collaboration in tackling the diversion of petroleum products. The seized fuel is expected to undergo regulatory assessment in line with existing guidelines.

According to Customs authorities, the products were confiscated during coordinated operations targeting smuggling networks operating along border communities. The exercise forms part of broader efforts to curb the illicit movement of fuel outside the country.

Officials noted that such enforcement actions are crucial to safeguarding national resources and ensuring availability of petroleum products for domestic use. The receiving agency also reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict compliance within the sector and preventing further losses through illegal activities.
