The United States diplomatic mission in Nigeria has recognised the achievements of Nigerian-born aerospace expert Wendy Okolo, praising her contributions to advanced aviation research.
The mission highlighted her role at NASA Ames Research Center, where she is actively involved in developing technologies aimed at improving aircraft safety and performance.
Okolo, who earned her doctoral degree at just 26, has built a strong reputation in the aerospace field. Her work focuses on flight control systems, safety monitoring, and innovative solutions that enhance the reliability of modern aircraft.
She also holds a historic distinction as the first Black woman to obtain a PhD in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington, a milestone that continues to inspire young scientists globally.
The recognition forms part of ongoing efforts by the U.S. mission to celebrate individuals of Nigerian origin making significant strides in science, technology, and other professional fields across the world.
