Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), has officially inaugurated its Business School, alongside the unveiling of its Board of Directors and Management Team.
The launch ceremony, held at the university’s New Lecture Hall, marked a significant milestone in the institution’s drive to expand its academic and professional offerings.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Maduebibisi Iwe, described the Business School as a centre designed to promote leadership development, executive education, entrepreneurship, and policy engagement. He explained that the initiative reflects a strategic move toward interdisciplinary learning and practical impact, while upholding the university’s core principles of excellence, integrity, and service.
According to him, the school represents both continuity and progress. “It is a bridge between what has been achieved and what lies ahead, a seed planted today whose fruits will benefit future generations of scholars, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and leaders,” he said.
Prof. Iwe, who is concluding his tenure, emphasized that a vision of such scale requires more than goodwill to succeed. He called for strong partnerships and collective commitment to elevate the school to global standards.
“To build a truly world-class Business School, we need collaboration and shared ownership,” he stated, appealing to board members, alumni, industry leaders, development partners, and government agencies for support through infrastructure development, scholarships, research funding, faculty advancement, and international partnerships.
Speaking on behalf of the Board, Abia State Commissioner for Transport and member of the Governing Board, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, described his appointment as a responsibility to help shape the academic and entrepreneurial future of both the institution and the country.
Dr. Ukaegbu assured that the Board would uphold sound corporate governance, back the school’s management in achieving its strategic goals, and work to attract partnerships that will strengthen funding, visibility, and academic excellence.
Under the new structure, the Vice Chancellor serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors, with former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, as Co-Chair. The Management Team is led by Prof. Michael Ekwe as Director of the Business School.
