Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, along with his wife and son following their arraignment over an alleged ₦8.7 billion money laundering case. The defendants were brought before the court on multiple charges relating to financial transactions believed to involve illicit funds.
Delivering the ruling, the judge approved bail for each of the three defendants in the sum of ₦200 million. The court also directed that they must present two reliable sureties each as part of the conditions required to secure their release.
Among the requirements set by the court is that the sureties must possess verifiable landed property in high-value areas of Abuja. The judge also ordered the defendants to surrender their international passports while the legal proceedings continue.
Despite being granted bail, the court ruled that Malami, his wife and son would remain in custody until they meet all the bail conditions. The case is expected to continue at a later date when the trial will proceed.
