Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has extended his support to British‑Nigerian boxing hopeful Patricia Mbata as she competes for a spot on Nigeria’s team for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

In a social media video, Joshua sent Mbata his best wishes during the national trials in Lagos, urging her to give her best and secure her place on the team.

Mbata, who has ties to both the UK and Nigeria and trains at the same north London club where Joshua began his amateur career, expressed gratitude for the encouragement, noting the motivation she draws from her coaches and teammates.

The trials form part of Nigeria’s selection process, where athletes across the country are competing for 10 boxing slots to represent the nation at the Commonwealth Games.
