Lagos State is set to host swimming trials on March 22 at the Rowe Park Sports Complex in Yaba, aiming to discover promising swimmers aged 16 and under from across the state. The initiative seeks to nurture young athletes and identify those with the potential to compete at higher levels.

Organised by the Lagos State Sports Commission, the trials are open to boys and girls from schools, clubs, and swimming centres. Participants will have the chance to showcase their skills and earn recognition that could open doors to state and national competitions.

The competition will provide young swimmers a platform to experience official meet conditions, test their abilities against peers, and gain exposure to the standards expected in professional swimming events. Multiple age groups and categories are included to ensure broad participation.

The Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission highlighted that this initiative is part of a wider effort to strengthen grassroots sports in the state. Early talent identification and support are seen as crucial steps toward producing future champions.

A variety of swimming events will be contested, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and mixed relays across different distances. Coaches and athletes are encouraged to take part, helping to create a pipeline of skilled swimmers for Lagos and beyond.
