Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has raised concerns over what he describes as a coordinated attempt to undermine the growing momentum of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku dismissed reports claiming he held a meeting with ADC stakeholders and decided to withdraw from active politics. He described the reports as false and deliberately misleading.
According to the statement, Atiku has not held any such meeting at the national level, noting that his only recent engagement was with stakeholders in Adamawa State. He stressed that any major decision, such as stepping away from politics, would be formally communicated through official channels, not through rumours or anonymous sources.
Atiku’s camp alleged that the reports are part of a broader disinformation campaign aimed at creating confusion and slowing the ADC’s rising influence. The statement described the situation as a calculated effort by political opponents to disrupt the party’s progress.
It further argued that Atiku remains a central figure in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape, with increasing attention and alignment from various quarters ahead of the next election cycle.
The statement concluded by urging supporters and Nigerians to ignore what it called propaganda and remain focused on efforts to rebuild the country and strengthen democratic processes.
