Table Tennis Star Aruna Battles to Stay in World Cup

Nigeria’s table tennis star Quadri Aruna is at risk of an early exit from the 2026 ITTF World Cup after losing his opening group match in straight sets. He was defeated 3‑0 by Croatia’s Tomislav Pucar, leaving his tournament hopes in a precarious position.

To stay in contention for the knockout stages, Aruna must secure a win against Japan’s Sora Matsushima in his next match. Only the winner of each group advances, making this upcoming game crucial.

Aruna has been one of Africa’s most successful table tennis players in recent years and previously reached the World Cup quarter-finals, but he has struggled for form in recent international competitions.

His next match later this week will determine whether he can turn around his campaign in Macao and continue competing at the global event.
