Black Stars Shakeup: Otto Addo Sacked Weeks Before World Cup

Ghana’s national football team has parted ways with head coach Otto Addo, leaving the Black Stars without a manager just over 10 weeks before the FIFA World Cup.

The decision follows a series of disappointing results, including losses in recent friendlies that raised concerns about the team’s readiness for the tournament.

In a statement, the Ghana Football Association thanked Addo for his contributions and wished him well, but did not immediately announce a successor. The association said it will reveal the next technical direction for the Black Stars in due course.

Addo had led Ghana through his second stint as coach since March 2024, guiding the team to its fifth World Cup appearance. However, inconsistent results and setbacks in continental competitions had increased scrutiny over his leadership.

Ghana is drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama in the upcoming World Cup, which kicks off this summer in North America.
