President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the recent violent attacks in Plateau and Kaduna States, describing them as barbaric, cowardly, and a direct threat to national peace and unity.
The President’s reaction follows the deadly incidents in Angwan Rukuba in Jos, Plateau State, and Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where gunmen killed residents and abducted others.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu vowed that those responsible would be tracked down and brought to justice.
He described the attackers as “heartless cowards” who operate under the cover of darkness to target defenseless citizens, adding that such acts are often intended to provoke further violence and disrupt communal harmony.
Tinubu directed security agencies to intensify intelligence-led operations aimed at apprehending the perpetrators and ensuring they face prosecution. He also ordered immediate efforts to secure the release of all individuals still held by the abductors.
Commending the safe return of two kidnapped victims in Kaduna, the President urged security forces to act swiftly and decisively to rescue the remaining hostages.
He further called on security agencies to make greater use of credible intelligence and early-warning systems to prevent future attacks.
The President also warned against the spread of misinformation and unverified reports, noting that such narratives could heighten tensions and inflame religious or ethnic divisions. He urged the media to report responsibly and avoid content that could worsen the situation.
Tinubu emphasized the importance of cooperation between communities and security agencies, including adherence to safety advisories and evacuation directives where necessary.
He acknowledged the efforts of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani in responding to the incidents and supporting ongoing rescue operations.
“I assure the people and governments of both states of the Federal Government’s full support,” he said, while extending condolences to the families of victims and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
The President also disclosed that the Federal Government is strengthening the capacity of security agencies by providing advanced equipment to improve real-time tracking and enhance the fight against criminal elements across the country.
