ADC Leadership Crisis Deepens as Party Challenges INEC’s Position

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly opposed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) stance on the party’s leadership structure, escalating tensions over the interpretation of a recent Court of Appeal judgment.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the faction of the party aligned with former Senate President David Mark dismissed INEC’s position, insisting that the electoral body had misapplied the court’s ruling in a way that undermines the party’s internal processes.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, accused INEC of yielding to external influence, alleging that the commission’s actions were driven by political pressure rather than a fair reading of the law. He claimed the move was part of a broader effort to weaken opposition parties in the country.

The ADC maintained that it would not accept what it described as an unjust interpretation and hinted at further legal and political steps to defend its leadership structure, signaling that the dispute may head for another round of legal battles.
