Yusuf Buhari, the only son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has officially declared his intention to run for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a letter dated April 3, 2026, which he personally signed, Yusuf revealed his plan to contest for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC). He described his decision as the result of consultations with community leaders and party stakeholders.

He expressed hope to contribute to effective and quality leadership while promoting development in his constituency, appealing to supporters for their backing as his campaign begins.

Confirmation of Yusuf’s political ambition was shared by Bashir Ahmad, former special assistant on digital communications to his late father, who noted that the decision followed “wide consultations” with key figures ahead of the 2027 polls.

If successful, Yusuf Buhari would represent his constituency in the federal legislature, joining other lawmakers elected to Nigeria’s National Assembly next year.
