New Liverpool signing Jeremie Frimpong says he is settling in well and enjoying his first pre-season with the club, despite the team’s recent defeat to AC Milan.
The Dutch international featured in the second half of the Reds’ 4-2 loss to the Italian side on Saturday in front of nearly 50,000 fans at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Stadium. While the result was disappointing, Frimpong stressed that fitness and team cohesion remain the key priorities at this stage.
“Of course, no one likes to lose, even in pre-season,” Frimpong told Liverpoolfc.com. “But the main focus right now is to get fit, and we’re progressing well in that regard.”
The 23-year-old was introduced in a wide attacking role on the right wing and impressed with his energy and attacking intent. Reflecting on his versatility, Frimpong expressed confidence in adapting to any role assigned to him by head coach Arne Slot.
“For me, anywhere I play, I play the same,” he said. “I’m an attacking full-back, so whether it’s right-back, right wing-back, or right wing, I approach it the same way. I’ll always give my all wherever the manager needs me.”
Liverpool will now continue their Asian tour, heading to Japan where they are scheduled to face Yokohama F. Marinos before returning to Merseyside to continue preparations for the upcoming Premier League season.
