Niger Tornadoes Football Club has announced plans to adopt the Lafia City Stadium in Nasarawa State as their temporary home ground for the upcoming 2025-26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season. This decision comes after their traditional home venue, the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna, failed to meet the league’s minimum requirements to host top-flight matches.

The Ikon Allah Boys will kick off their NPFL campaign with a clash against Nasarawa United. However, the season opener will not take place in either Minna or Lafia but at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl Stadium in Ilorin. The match is scheduled for next week Wednesday, setting the tone for what could be a challenging season of logistical adjustments for the team.

According to a club official, the game in Ilorin will only serve as a stopgap arrangement for their first home fixture. “We are going to play our first home game in Ilorin, just the first match,” the official confirmed, emphasizing that it is a temporary measure while the club works on resolving its stadium issues.

If clearance is not granted for matches to be hosted in Minna after the first fixture, the team will permanently relocate to Lafia for the rest of the season. The move to Lafia underscores the club’s determination to remain competitive in the NPFL despite infrastructural setbacks at their home base.
