The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is on the verge of finalising a landmark eight-year broadcast deal valued at one billion US dollars, aimed at reshaping the financial future of African football.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe made the announcement in Nairobi on Saturday following a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee. He also engaged with presidents of all 54 member associations across the continent.

The deal, centred on broadcast rights for CAF’s flagship competitions, is expected to provide a significant boost to revenue streams and strengthen the organisation’s ability to develop football infrastructure and talent across Africa.

“CAF is about to conclude a historic agreement that will change the fortunes of African football for generations to come,” Motsepe said.

The announcement coincided with the closing stages of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), which Kenya co-hosted with Uganda and Tanzania. The tournament, hailed as the most successful edition in CAF’s history, concludes Saturday evening with a final showdown between Morocco and Madagascar at Nairobi’s main stadium.

If sealed, the billion-dollar deal will mark one of the most lucrative commercial agreements in the history of African sport.
