Chiloane Pledges to Rebuild Alrapark Primary Within 18 Months

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane has committed to rebuilding Alrapark Primary School in Nigel within 18 months, following weeks of disruption caused by safety concerns.

During a visit to the school on Monday, Chiloane announced that the provincial department will invest between R80 million and R120 million to construct a new facility and refurbish the temporary mobile classrooms currently in use.

Learners at Alrapark have been out of class for three weeks after parents halted teaching, citing hazardous conditions. The protest followed an incident in which a falling window injured a staff member.

Chiloane acknowledged the impact of the disruptions, stressing that lost learning time must be recovered. “The district will work closely with the school on a recovery plan, which may include after-school and weekend classes,” he said.

Parents and the School Governing Body (SGB) have welcomed the announcement, expressing relief that a permanent solution is finally on the horizon.
