Real Madrid have confirmed that England international Trent Alexander-Arnold has sustained a hamstring injury during their Champions League win over Marseille.

The 25-year-old right-back, who joined the Spanish giants from Liverpool in the summer, lasted only four minutes in Tuesday’s 2-1 victory before being forced off. His replacement, Dani Carvajal, was later sent off, leaving Madrid to battle with 10 men for the final stages of the match.

In a statement on Wednesday, the club revealed that medical tests showed Alexander-Arnold had suffered a hamstring problem in his left leg. According to Spanish media reports, he is expected to be sidelined for around three weeks.

Signed to add depth to Madrid’s right flank after Carvajal’s injury struggles last season, both players will now be unavailable for the team’s next Champions League fixture away to Kairat Almaty on September 30.
