Rivers United will on Thursday (today) depart Nigeria for Kinshasa, DR Congo, to face FC Les Aigles du Congo in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round fixture. The team and officials will travel via the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight.

The contingent, which arrived in Lagos on Wednesday from Port Harcourt, is expected to connect directly to Kinshasa ahead of the crucial encounter. The game is scheduled to take place at the Stade des Martyrs on Saturday, September 20.

This marks Rivers United’s return to the CAF Champions League after their last appearance in 2023. The Nigerian side will be hoping for a better run this time around, having struggled to make a significant impact in their previous campaign.

In their last outing, Rivers United were eliminated in the second round of the competition. The team is now determined to push further in this year’s edition as they aim to establish themselves among Africa’s elite clubs.
