Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has praised Enyimba International Football Club of Aba following their dramatic 3-2 victory over Bendel Insurance in Sunday’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash.
The People’s Elephants overturned an early setback to claim all three points in front of their home fans. Insurance stunned the Aba crowd by scoring in the second minute, but Enyimba equalised in the 18th through Abiodun Joseph. The Benin-based side went ahead again in the 59th minute before Kalu Nweke converted from the spot in the 66th minute to level the score. Just three minutes later, Chidera Michael netted the decisive winner, sealing the comeback.
The win lifted Enyimba to the top of the NPFL table with 11 points from five matches. Governor Otti, who attended the game alongside members of his cabinet, revealed that he visited the team during halftime to encourage them, describing their response as “resilient and spirited.”
In a message shared on X, Otti commended the players, the fans, the coaching crew, and the club’s chairman, Kanu Nwankwo, for their roles in the victory. He also lauded Bendel Insurance for their sportsmanship, stressing that Enyimba’s performance reflected the “can-do spirit” of the people of Abia.
