As the world marks World Tourism Day, former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, has called on Nigerians and government at all levels to take deliberate steps towards harnessing the vast tourism potentials of the country.

In a goodwill message commemorating the day, Dr. Ogah noted that Nigeria is blessed with natural endowments, cultural heritage, and historical sites capable of attracting global attention and boosting the nation’s economy if properly developed.

He stressed that tourism remains a veritable tool for job creation, youth empowerment, and revenue generation, urging the Federal and State governments to invest more in infrastructure, security, and promotion of local tourism destinations.

Dr. Ogah further highlighted the theme of this year’s World Tourism Day, describing it as a reminder that tourism is not only about leisure but also about sustainable development, cultural exchange, and national pride.

He called on Nigerians to embrace domestic tourism by visiting and showcasing the country’s rich sites and festivals, stating that promoting Nigeria’s image globally begins with appreciating its beauty locally.

“Tourism has the power to unite people, foster peace, and diversify our economy. As a nation, we must make conscious efforts to position Nigeria as a prime tourist destination in Africa,” Dr. Ogah said.

He concluded with a message of hope, praying that Nigeria would rise to fully explore its God-given resources and cultural heritage for the benefit of present and future generations.
