Manchester United’s woes deepened on Saturday following a 3-1 loss to Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium, a result that has intensified scrutiny on manager Ruben Amorim.

Brazilian striker Igor Thiago stole the spotlight early, scoring twice within the first 20 minutes. He opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a composed finish after breaking the offside trap, before doubling Brentford’s lead 12 minutes later by converting a rebound.

United showed signs of life in the 26th minute when Benjamin Šeško capitalized on a scramble in the box to pull one back. The match’s defining moment came in the 71st minute, when captain Bruno Fernandes had the chance to equalize from the penalty spot. However, Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher denied him with a superb save.

In stoppage time, substitute Mathias Jensen sealed the win with a stunning long-range effort on the counterattack, leaving United empty-handed.

The victory gives Brentford a major boost of confidence, while United, despite last week’s win over Chelsea, find themselves back in crisis mode with Amorim’s position under serious question heading into the international break.
