Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has apologised and clarified her controversial comment about introducing her teenage daughter, Similoluwa, to alcohol.

In a video shared on her Instagram page on Sunday, the actress described the statement, which went viral, as a “slip of the tongue” during an interview. She stressed that neither she nor her daughter consumes alcohol.

“She’s still a minor and doesn’t take alcohol. I don’t take alcohol either,” Bakare said. “The clubbing happened during her birthday after-party, but no alcohol was involved. I would never introduce my daughter to alcohol.”

Bakare expressed regret that her comment caused misunderstanding and hurt, especially to parents and her daughter. “She felt bad about being portrayed wrongly. I sincerely apologise to all parents who felt disappointed by that statement,” she added.

The actress reiterated that the outing was purely a celebratory event and had no connection to underage drinking.
