Frank Warren Shuts Down Talk of Moses Itauma vs. Derek Chisora Showdown

Promoter Frank Warren has dismissed speculation linking British-Nigerian heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma with a potential bout against veteran Derek Chisora later this year.

Both fighters are set to appear on the same card in Manchester on December 13, though neither has confirmed an opponent, sparking rumours of a possible clash between them. Itauma is seeking more ring experience ahead of a possible world title shot in 2026, while Chisora is preparing for the 50th fight of his professional career.

Warren admitted he briefly considered the all-British matchup but confirmed it would not be happening.
“There’s no chance as it stands,” he told The Ring. “It was explored, yes, but there were no legs in it. Ideally, we want them both to box on the same night.”

The promoter acknowledged that finding an opponent for Itauma has proven difficult since his first-round knockout of former world title challenger Dillian Whyte in August. Initial targets Filip Hrgovic and Jermaine Franklin reportedly priced themselves out, leaving Michael Hunter and David Adeleye as leading contenders.

Securing a suitable opponent for Chisora’s milestone fight has also been challenging, with Queensberry Promotions revising their plans after initial negotiations fell through.

“We’re hoping to finalise the Manchester card this week,” Warren said. “We thought we had it done, but it fell apart. Now we’re back to work on it and will see what happens.”

Warren also revealed that one manager demanded an outrageous $3.5 million purse to face Itauma.
“Never in all my time in boxing have I had such trouble matching a 20-year-old,” he said. “It’s crazy. The heavyweight scene is uncertain right now with Usyk holding all four belts, and some people are asking for ridiculous money.”
