Morocco made history in the early hours of Monday by defeating Argentina to win this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Yassir Zabiri opened the scoring for the North Africans in the 12th minute and went on to double the lead later in the first half, giving Morocco a comfortable 2–0 advantage.
Despite Argentina’s efforts to fight back, no goals were recorded in the second half as Morocco held firm to secure victory at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos.
The result capped an impressive campaign for the Moroccans, who had earlier eliminated France in the semi-finals, while Argentina booked their final spot after edging past Colombia.
In the third-place match, Colombia defeated France 1–0 to finish the tournament in third position.
