Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced a ₦50 million support package for the Super Falcons ahead of their crucial second-leg 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against the Amazons of Benin Republic in Abeokuta.

The governor made the announcement on Monday when he received the nine-time African champions at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, noting that the gesture was to reward their inspiring performances and motivate them for the decisive encounter.

“We were delighted to receive the Super Falcons in our office ahead of their second-leg WAFCON qualifier against Benin Republic. In recognition of their dedication and to further inspire them, we announced a ₦50 million support package,” Abiodun wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

Abiodun added that the Falcons’ return to the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta, highlighted the state’s growing investment in sports. He revealed plans to transform the stadium’s surroundings into a world-class sports hub, featuring a five-star hotel, cinema, and shopping complex, positioning Abeokuta as a premier sports and tourism destination.

Commending the Super Falcons for their record 10th WAFCON title, the governor described them as models of leadership, teamwork, and discipline. “They have shown that excellence knows no gender. Their success continues to inspire young women to pursue greatness through hard work and unity,” he said.

Abiodun reaffirmed Ogun State’s unwavering support for the team and expressed confidence in their ability to keep making Nigeria proud. “Ogun State stands with the Super Falcons as they continue to inspire the next generation of leaders, athletes, and achievers,” he assured.

The Super Falcons will face the Benin Amazons on Tuesday at the MKO Abiola Stadium in the second leg of the final qualifying round. Nigeria holds a 2–0 aggregate lead from the first leg in Cotonou, courtesy of goals from Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo.

Head coach Justin Madugu has vowed that the team will not take the return fixture lightly as they aim to seal qualification for the 14th WAFCON, scheduled to take place in Morocco from March 17 to April 3, 2026.
