Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman has called on his Atalanta teammates to show greater consistency and killer instinct after netting his first Serie A goal of the season in a 1–1 draw against AC Milan on Tuesday night.
The reigning African Footballer of the Year was named Man of the Match for his outstanding display at the Stadio di Bergamo, where his first-half strike cancelled out Samuele Ricci’s early opener for Milan. Lookman fired a powerful shot into the roof of the net from Mario Pašalić’s assist to secure a point for the hosts.
Speaking after the game, the 28-year-old forward said he was pleased to be back among the goals but admitted Atalanta must improve to reach their full potential.
> “It feels good to be back and to help the team,” Lookman told DAZN.
“The most important thing is to keep improving because we need to grow as a group. What matters in the end is helping the team win matches.”
Lookman has had a mixed start to the campaign following a summer of transfer speculation linking him with Inter Milan and Bayern Munich. After those moves fell through, he initially struggled for form, featuring briefly against Torino and missing the Juventus clash.
However, under new manager Ivan Jurić, who replaced Gian Piero Gasperini in the summer, Lookman has regained rhythm — starting six straight matches and rediscovering the spark that made him one of Atalanta’s standout players last season.
Jurić hailed the Nigerian’s performance and influence, describing him as a player with rare drive and quality.
> “Lookman is a fantastic player. Maybe we pushed too hard to bring him back, but he always gives everything. He has great energy and special quality. I’m very happy for him,” the coach said.
Despite Atalanta’s dominance in possession and multiple chances, Jurić expressed disappointment that his side couldn’t convert their superiority into victory.
> “There was only one team that should have won tonight,” he added. “We created so many opportunities but must become more clinical. Once that happens, everything will start to click.”
Atalanta remain unbeaten in Serie A this season, with two wins and seven draws. While their defensive resilience has impressed, their lack of attacking efficiency continues to frustrate supporters.
Lookman, a key figure in Atalanta’s push for Champions League qualification last season, will aim to maintain his form when the team faces Maduka Okoye’s Udinese in their next league fixture on Saturday.
