Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has brushed off comparisons linking his goal-scoring feats to those of football greats Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, saying he is focused solely on improving his own performance.
In a post shared by football journalist Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, the Norwegian star said, “No, not at all! No one can get close to Ronaldo and Messi, so no… I am just Erling, a Norwegian guy scoring goals. That won’t change.”
His comments come as debates intensify over whether Haaland could one day match or surpass the incredible goal tallies of Ronaldo and Messi, who have each scored more than 800 career goals.
Since joining Manchester City, Haaland has broken several Premier League and Champions League records, fueling comparisons with the legendary duo. However, the 24-year-old insists he remains focused on his own journey and development.
Currently leading the Premier League scoring chart with 13 goals, Haaland will aim to extend his fine form when Manchester City host Borussia Dortmund at the Etihad in their upcoming Champions League clash.
