Portable Plans to Return to School to Improve Career Management

Nigerian street-pop artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has revealed plans to return to school to better manage his music career and business interests.

The Zazoo Zehh crooner made the disclosure in a video shared on his Instagram page on Saturday, noting that he wants to combine fame with professionalism and make informed decisions in his music journey.

Portable, who already holds a National Diploma (ND) from Kwara State Polytechnic, said he intends to further his education to strengthen the management of his record label, Zeh Nation.

> “Even though I already have an OND from Kwara State Polytechnic, I still want to go back to school,” he said. “I sponsor people and my children too, so I don’t want anyone saying Portable didn’t go to school in the future. I want to study so I can understand my royalties, contracts, and business dealings better, especially for my record label.”



The 31-year-old artiste explained that his decision is not just about obtaining another certificate, but about gaining the necessary skills to handle his brand more professionally and independently.

Over the years, Portable has made headlines for his energetic performances, outspoken nature, and frequent controversies.

Earlier this year, he was involved in a legal dispute with Fuji musician Saheed Osupa, who accused him of criminal defamation, threats to life, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace following a disagreement over Portable’s song Fuji Shakushaku.

The case was later withdrawn after mediation by notable Nigerians. Osupa’s media aide, Busari Babatunde, said the withdrawal was made “in the hope that Portable will seize this opportunity for reflection, growth, and transformation.” Portable was also asked to retract defamatory statements and sign an undertaking to stop online harassment.

In another incident, the Ogun State Government sealed Portable’s uncompleted building and hotel in Ota over alleged illegal development. The singer was accused of assaulting government officials during the enforcement exercise, leading to the arrest of nine of his associates.

After being declared wanted, Portable appeared in a viral video apologizing and later turned himself in to the police. He was subsequently arraigned before a magistrates’ court in Abeokuta and granted bail in the sum of ₦2 million.

Despite these controversies, Portable maintains that his focus now is on personal growth, education, and ensuring a sustainable future for his brand and music career.
