Nigerian mixed martial artists Juliet Ukah and Wasi Adeshina are set to make history at the Professional Fighters League (PFL) Africa Finals in Cotonou, Benin, on December 20.
Ukah, Africa’s first female fighter signed by the PFL, will take on Egyptian MMA contender Maryam Gaber in a women’s strawweight showcase bout. The undefeated Nigerian, nicknamed the “Queen of the Cage,” boasts a perfect 7-0 professional record, with most wins by decision and one by TKO since debuting in Cameroon in April 2023. A member of the Nigeria Police Force, Ukah draws inspiration from national sports icons such as long jumper Chioma Ajunwa, Nigeria’s first Olympic gold medalist.
Adeshina will compete in the featherweight finals against unbeaten Cameroonian Alain Majorique. The Nigerian fighter, currently on a five-fight winning streak, holds a 9-3 professional record and is aiming to claim the $100,000 prize along with the title of inaugural PFL Africa Tournament Champion.
In other matches, Nigeria’s Cornel Thompson will face Benin’s Jean Do Santos in a lightweight showcase, while Miracle Andrew will meet Zambia’s Shelda Chipito in another women’s strawweight bout.
The PFL Africa Finals, hosted at the iconic Sofitel Dome, will feature championship contests across the heavyweight, welterweight, featherweight, and bantamweight divisions, promising an action-packed event for MMA fans.
